Aetna Coverage Availability and Fees

When enrolling in Aetna dental insurance plan, you are agreeing to pay the mandatory monthly premium to gain access to a wide array of benefits. All policies will vary from person to person; however, you can expect your coverage to look similar to the following:

  • 80%-100% preventive care
  • 70%-80% minor restorative care
  • 50%-70% major restorative care

If you require sedation dentistry during your visit, it may be possible to receive some level of coverage.

If you want to get the most out of your dental insurance and avoid losing money at the end of each calendar year, it is strongly advised that you:

  • Visit a dentist who is an in-network provider with Aetna, as this will help to keep your out-of-pocket costs low
  • Maintain regular six-month dental check-ups and cleanings with Dr. Lawton to avoid unnecessary restorative treatment in the future
  • Discuss your insurer information with our dental team so we can begin to look for ways to maximize your benefits

As an Aetna dentist, Dr. Lawton has already negotiated terms with the insurance company to provide certain services at a reduced cost. This type of arrangement is why it is strongly advised that you seek care from an in-network provider. While you are free to choose any dentist you prefer, opting to see an in-network dentist with your PPO plan will ensure you receive the most coverage without emptying your wallet.

Should you choose an out-of-network dentist, you will likely be responsible for fees that are considered higher than the fair pricing designated by the insurance company, and you will pay more out of pocket for the services you receive.
